affordable tube preamp for steel

I've got a nice 120 watt Samson Power amp and a Genz Benz single twelve ported cab w/tiny tweeter that I would like to use for steel but need an affordable tube preamp w/ eq to put in front of it.Right now I'm using a Tubeworks 60 watt head that's fine, but it's solid state ( it's single preamp tube is only for the dirty channels overdrive control ) Anyone's suggestions or experiences would be welcome. If there is no such animal I'll probably just buy a Peavey Classic 30

You should be able to find a PV TubeFex or a Mesa Boogie Studio Preamp reasonably.

Check out the Ampeg SVT rackmount bass preamp. All tube,single unit (5 12ax7s I think).Sounds awesome with steel and I think you can find used ones for very reasonable prices.

The "Real Tube II" is a really good preamp that can often be found in the $100 price range. I have one that I keep as a backup in case my Boogie goes down.

Thanks for your tips guys , actually Olli, I use my Ampeg SVT Pro amp for my bass, and it's a wonderful bass amp. It just isn't voiced properly for guitar though . I don't think it can serve double duty like the early Fender Bassman. I did try a Blue Tube but returned it . I was pretty unimpressed with it's sound. I'll take a look at the Ibanez one though, that sounds like an option .

I use a Blue Tube II in my rack setup. There was a steel mod that Tube Works put in some of the Blue Tube II's but mine doesn't have it and it still sounds good.
