Problem with Session 2000?
Has anyone been having problems with the sound cutting out?
I know 3 other people besides me that have been having the same problem.
Well - guess what - we now know what the problem is. E mail me if you want to know how to cure the problem.

I had one for a year, and it was back to the factory 4 times in that time. I had one hell of a tone out of it but, it let me down just when I needed it most. I got to where I was afraid to chance taking it out to gig with, so, I unloaded it and started playing through my Vegas. Even though the Vegas sounds great I never did get "that" sound again until I got an Evans SE 150. I have that sound again. I'm happy now. Jim Miller

Clive, I know that the amp worked well when it was here. I played through it everyday and then shipped it after it didn't cut out like your note stated.
Question, are you using or is anyone in the band using wireless gear? If so, try moving away from that type of gear as wireless and digital gear seem to interfere with each other sometimes.
Let me know.

I have replaced my A/C system this year with a Bigger system. The TRAINE "BINFORD 5000"!!! OHh, oh, Yeah! Me Casa es mui freo! Immediatly started noticing that when the A/C comes on it pulls a lot more electricity on the house current causing my 2000 to cut out. You might be starving the amp of good clean current. This only happens to the 2000. I have a small P A system with rack effects, 600 watt Carvin amp that does not cut out ( Go figure!).
This (having the electricity troubles) is really a bummer! I have to turn off the A/C to play my steel! Yes, I am waiting for the electrician to look into this! It gets hot here in Texas! But, Me Casa es mui freo! Just my own experience. YMMV Greg

I recently had the opportunity to take apart a session 2000 that had sound-cut-out troubles.
When I opened the amp I discovered that Peavey uses IDC/IDT/MTA (they are known under different names) type sockets and plugs to interconnect the various pcb`s in the amp.
I cleaned the connections and had no further sound troubles while I used the amp during a week.
From my work, where we use the same type of connections in some american made document processors, I know that this kind of connection over time can cause trouble due to contact erosion and dirt build-up in the plugs.
Those of you who experience sound loss in Peavay amps - take a look inside and if the amp has these connections clean them with a contact cleaner solvent that contains no oil.
I am not claiming the procedure will cure all problems but it sure won`t hurt non - unless you forget to unplug the power plug.

Thanks to Clive passing on his info about the loose red connectors inside the unit, my problem with my RC2000 not responding has disappeared like magic.
What Uwe recommends worked just fine for me. It takes less than five minutes to disconnect the speakers and remove the four screws in the top that holds the case. When I slid it out the red connectors were right there in plain sight, in various places. Each of them needed a little snugging. I have my 2000 permanently mounted on a dolly, so when it is in the van it is lying flat. That may have contributed to the problem.
I now have a perfectly good barely used RC2000 as a spare. Sounds like I may not need a spare.
Thanks for the handy hint. I love the features in this amp so much. It is perfect for me, with a bad back and doubling on fiddle, because it changes settings to my pre-tweaked fiddle patch at the touch of a button, and without twisting around to twist knobs.

Clive,
Yes, I was with Jeff Newman in May.
He was kind enough to let me have a go at his session 2000 which until then had had
the sound problems mentioned in this thread.
I don`t know for how long the problem will stay solved though- if I were the lucky owner of a session 2000 I would hardwire the "darn" thing.
BTW. the one week class I attended at Jeff Newman`s is best learning experience I have ever had. It has only been a month since I came home from over there and already the guys in my band have noticed a dramatical change for the better in my playing.
I`ll probably be going again next year - Jeff is a goldmine of steel guitar knowledge.
He is a natural teacher and probably the best I have ever met.
It was worth every cent.
