WTB Rack Tuner... Any Suggestions?
I'm thinking about a rack tuner, just because I want one. No other real reason except I've got an uncontrollable urge to spend some money. Should I go with the Korg DTR series, or is there another out there that's better? I don't tune exactly to 440, and it's sometimes difficult trying to hold that little digital output Korg steady and tune at the same time. Also, it sortof jumps around on the scale, and I'd like something that's a little more precise.
P.S. - Perhaps this belongs in Pedal Steel, not too sure.

Michael, I would recomend the DTR-1 over the DTR-2. I bnought a DTR-2 and my Buddy bought a DTR-1. His DTR-1 tracks the note and seems much more stable than my DTR-2. The DTR-1 also has more features and three different tuning modes. I think both tuners have different desinators now but the top of the line is the way I would go.

If the top of the line is the way you would go, why not go with the DTR 1000? Isn't that the newest one out there?
Thanks for all the advice

Hi, I have had the Sabine 1600, Korg DTR-1, DTR-2, the new Sabine with strobe, the Furman rack tuner in a power/light unit and currently have the new Korg DTR-1000. The new Sabine is junk.
For the money, the DTR-1000 is the best buy unless you can find a good DTR-1 used. Either model has strobe, large readout of the note you're tuning and calibration for tuning off 440.
I'll sell my DTR-1000 for $150 plus shipping.
Thanks,
David Spangler

You won't be disappointed with the Korg.
How do I like the Carter? I've gotten every penny out of it and more for what I paid. I got a great deal on it, and have absolutely no regrets for buying it. It's an older model, around a '95, and doesn't match up with some other guitars I've had the opportunity to play, including Mullen, Emmons, Pedalmaster, and Sierra, but I consider those "Top-of-the-line" guitars, and are way out of my range, both in price and skill. The great thing about Carter is, they provide an excellent product for a very reasonable price, and the way they can afford to do this is VOLUME. They sell a whole lot of guitars. I haven't had the chance to play a newer model, and there's a very good chance it's much more refined than my model. I do not have the "BCT" on my guitar, but it'll still "Holds on for a long time" according to Bill Dearmore, a man who knows what he's talking about. I love my Carter, and it isn't just because I don't have the means to afford another guitar.
[This message was edited by Michael Garnett on 04 September 2003 at 12:26 AM.]

Thanks Michael - Yeah the new Carters look like they are pretty good - I'm just waiting a bit for our exchange rate to improve a bit, it's currently 58cents US so that almost doubles the price !! Plus shipping etc so it's a large dollop of dosh - but it will soon pay for itself I'm sure.
I should have my Korg on monday - will let you know what I think.

This may be way out there, but here goes.
PEterson makes a rack tuner RT 490(?) I may have the numbers wrong. Check Peterson's website and have a good look. It is a true strobe tuner, programmable to your needs, note by note, and many personal temperments.
It is expensive, and worth every penny.
It is a 2U unit.
