WEBB 6-14-GP / EVANS ESPA PreAmp

Post by Gary Steele »

I just acquired a 6 14 GP not very old and a Evans preAmp I think its a ESPA. It has 4 or 5 knobs and two toggle switches. How do you like these. Does this amp work as well with steel as the 6 14 E? I may sell it and get a 6 14 E. It is black and not very old. Maybe around 5 or 6 yrs old. It looks like it just came from ShowRoom. Let me know if Evans makes any better preAmp then this one. It was purchased new in i think late 2000.
Thanks, Gary

Gary I think the 614 you have is the same power etc as the 614E I have for sale but without the addition EQ section.

The reverb didnt work and the wire was disconnected inside and i soldered it back. Befor that i took one of the wires off the side of the reverb unit and it touched the metal and made a loud noise. I think i fried my voice coil. It dont have much punch and seems muddy. I plugged one of my other speakers in and it seemed fine. Can anyone tell me what has happened. I really dont think i'm going to like this amp either for myself. Does the 6 14 E sound different than the 6 14 GP? This amp is only suppose to be a few years old. Anyone have a nice 6 14 E you may want to trade for a 6 14 GP.

Thanks for your help. When your not a J.Hughey you have to get your help i guess from your Rig, Ha Ha LOL

Gary I still have my Black Webb 614E for sale. How much do you need out of your GP? Maybe we can work something out.

Gary, according to the Webb website, the 614 GP has the same amp and preamp as the 614E, but with an adjustment knob for voicing for fiddle and guitar as well as steel guitar. You might look at the Webb website for more info. In years past a few people have commented favorably on the GP and most of the ones I remember played fiddle and tele through it along with their steel guitars.
