Boss DD-3

I plug the unit's PS into a power strip like my amp and other devices. Problem is The boss won't come on without pushing the top foot pedal. I don't care for this.

Sooooo, I am installing a 9 Volt relay (from Radio Shack), in series with a a capacitor to the 9 volts coming from the PS. Then I am taking a set of "make" contacts from the relay and wiring them across the on off switch that the foot pedal activates.

Now, when ever I turn the switch (on the power strip) to ON, Everything comes on including the Boss DD-3. Yet I can still turn it on and off at will. With the battery gone (I hate em) there is plenty of room for the small relay. The value of the cap is not critical.

Since the relay is in series with the cap, ONCE the cap gets charged, which is very quick, the relay deenergizes and its just like you pressed the pedal and released it.

Hello C Dixon.....

After playing with my DD-3 for a few minutes, I find that it WILL come on in what-ever-state you have it in when you power it down. (Read this as turn off the power to it)

You might have a problem with your unit.. Please be aware that the unit does have a power switch built into the input jack,This is to insure we don't leave it on by accident when useing the battery.

(FYI) It does eat batteries very fast, so as you do,most of us also use the P/S.

Nope, no problem at all. All of them I have ever seen come up in the off condition when power is applied. You have to press the stomp pad to get them to turn on.

As far as the work involved. It is negligible. Less than 2 minutes two install the relay and the cap. Since I never use batteries the relay and cap lay in the battery compartment perfectly.

The very idea of a power strip is so one does not have to turn each unit on and off. The DD-3 defeats this competely IMO.

I was pleasantly surprised when my Boss RV-3 powered up in its previous state. This is unlike older Boss pedals. Maybe it needs a battery in addition to the external power supply.[This message was edited by Terry Downs on 15 February 2003 at 05:05 PM.]
