Help on RV-3

Post by Hiro Keitora »

My RV-3 has a microphonic problem...When you finger tap at around power supply plug, you hear " thump, thump" from amp. Main problem is that it makes sudden "tho-thump" noise while playing through once in a while. Can this be repaired? I see a few cheesy electrolytic caps around that plug, could they be the problem? <H>

Sounds like a bad ground solder joint. Can you return it for a new one? If you open it up, try hitting the solder joints with a hot soldering iron around the power jack terminals to see if that helps.

Good Luck,

Thanks! I'll try that! Come to think of it, I had Maxon CP-101 compressor with oscillation problem solved by "touch-up"re-soldering job on cold soldering joint. I'll let you know what I'll find. Thanks again! <H>

Boss pedals are notorious for loose jacks causing noise. Usually one of the jacks does not have a ground wire soldered to it and it relies on mechanical connection to the chassis for ground. Check to see of any of the jack mounting nuts are loose.

Hiro,
Any luck with the touch-up soldering?
