I need suggestions on a delay unit

Post by Michael McGee »

I would like your suggestions on a delay unit. Requirements:

* delay only - nothing else
* must let me tap in song tempo
* minimal or no change in guitar's tone
* at least 2 seconds of delay
* less than $200 for a new one

Thanks,

mm

DD-5 is pretty hard to beat. You can try mine out if you like.

For the 'tap' feature, you'll need a SEPARATE momentary switch for the DD-5. From what I read about the DD-6, they built the 'tap' function into the on/off switch -- you tap the tempo then hold more than 2 sec and it changes to that delay time. Great idea -- wish they'd have done that on the 5.

I have the DD-5 and used it the other night at the "Florida Steel Guitar Club Jam" and it sounded great with the Nashville 400.
But if I still had my DD-3 that I sold I'd still be using it over the DD-5. I can't explain why, but I liked the delay and overall mix I could get much better with the DD-3.
Either way you won't be wasting your money.
I just heard my friends RV-3 he bought and it's on it's way back to the store. Too many repeats for me and him and it made the steel sound tinny compared to when we tested it against the DD-5.
Only your own ears can make the decision for what you are looking for in your end sound.

I don't believe that the Lexicon MPX-100 has the delay tap in feature. Their MPX 200 has though. I believe I bought mine over e-bay for around $200.00. But if all you want is delay, the DD5 is a good unit.

The MPX-100 does indeed have the tap function. I have one in my rack. These units are being phased out and are very affordable right now.

And not to bad on price. As the matter of fact i have three of them.Somewhere around $150.00
And you can get a wall wart for it also.

I bought my first RV-3 about 6 years ago. I went out today and bought my 2nd RV-3 for my other system I take out on the road. Sweet, sweet, sweet.
