Evans Amp Static

Post by George Kimery »

If I turn the master volume past 2, the amp starts to a get bad, loud circuit noise. If I continue turning it up to 8, it starts a feedback, much like a mic. If I wiggle the knob, there is bad static. All of these problems only happen if the reverb is turned on, so somehow, the master volume is interacting with the reverb unit. Without the reverb on, there is some circuit noise, but not what I would consider abnormal. I tried cleaning the RCA plug where the reverb plugs into the amp, but it did not help. I think it might just be a bad pot or a loose connection, but I am not sure. My electronic knowledge is limited, but I can do basic stuff like switch a pot. This happens with nothing plugged into the amp and with the other volume knob off, so it is not feeding back from the guitar or volume pedal, it is definately the reverb. I have a Lexicon Alex Reverb, but tried it once and didn't come up with anything I liked. Perhaps I need to play with it some more. Anybody got any ideas before I have to spend the big bucks and ship it back to Evans for repair?
[This message was edited by George Kimery on 04 June 2002 at 03:35 PM.]

All you have to send is the amp chassis, not the whole cabinet. It's lightweight and shipping cahrges are very reasonable from TN.

Herb`s right but pack it well. You`ll find that Ed Buffington at Evan`s will take great care of you and inexpensively.
Did you put the Lexi in effect`s patching, play with it more, it`s the best reverb money can buy.
GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY STEELIN
