I tried one a couple of years ago, and was not impressed. Like most modeling amps, they give you fast tone changes, but the simulations aren't that close to what the various amps sound like. Oh yeah...they're not cheap, either! They might be okay for straight guitar, but the Peavey and Fender amps seem much more suitable for steel.

I've been using a Fender Cyber Deluxe for steel and am very pleased. The only issue
would be the output power on a loud stage.
It's only 65 watts into a single 12" Celestion. The Cyber Twin would then be a better choice @65watts stereo into 2-12.The
tone and effects are sweet. The amps are very
easy to use and light. Email me with any
questions.

Most modeling amps are great to play with but don't have the beef to stay with a band on stage. Especially as the band gets louder. J.D. Walters, from Tulsa seems to like his Fender Cyber twin, but I tried on and was not pleased. I work for Ampeg and Crate and Crate's modeling amp is one of the few that stays with a band, but I still don't care for it with a steel. I have found a couple of great pieces that we make which work as good with steel as anything I have heard. One is the new BFX220H, a bass head with built in effects and your choice of speakers. The other is a new ampeg amp called a PB250. IT is a 250 watt head and the cab is a very light way niodinium magnet loaded speaker.
