What kind of power amp?

I'm looking for a single space (hopefully) stereo power amp that I can use either with speaker cabinets and or plug headphones into to practice. Is there a power amp with enough power that can do what I'm looking for?

The best little power amp I have used , has been a Session Bass Amp.

But since you are looking for a 1 space, try one of the DPC power amps from Peavey.

C.Allen's right. I've got a DPC 1000,(along w/ a ProFex II,& 2 12",4 ohm Black Widows) & it kicks @$$.

CAllen's suggestion of a Peavey DPC amplifier is a good choice. Unfortunately, it does not have a headphone output.

You might want to check out the Peavey CS200X also. It works well for steel guitar applications and it is a single rack spaced unit that is rated at http://www.peavey.com/sr/power_amps.cfm

Mike, a couple of years ago when the 1400X was first demo'd at Dallas, all the "pro's" trying it out were really impressed with the extraordinary power, small size, and light weight, but it was still not in production after several months when I (among others) were wanting to buy one. The initial interest seemed to fade and not much was heard about it later, and I don't hear anything about it on the Forum today.

Is that amp even recommended for steel application now, and if so, what is the assessment for that purpose after some experience with it has accumulated? www.genejones.com

What I'm trying to do is find a way to practice with the headphones. I would also like to run a tape player through the power amp and be able to hear myself along with the tape in stereo if possible. I realize I may have to use more than one space but that's OK. I just figured if I'm going to get a power amp for this purpose maybe I can also use it to push some cabinets.

If you just want to use headphones, you don't need a power amp. All you need is a pre-amp. An Evans stereo pre-amp has a head phone jack, and is a one space rack, and is very light. If you want effects, you can add them to it. You would need a pre-amp of some kind anyway, if you are planning on buying a power amp. They sound really well through the ear phones and have a volume knob.
