Len , I would ask Ed for his recommendations..Since its his Steel and pickup I am sure he will have more experience with what is best and the most popular with his products..

Most builders that make their own pickups, still wind by DC ohms as a guide line for the "tone desired" for their pickups..Its a "rule of thumb" for determining the highs/lows of a pickup..

Generaly speaking, the more windings, the higher the DC resistance, and the longer the length of the coil, the bassier the pickup..
While many other factors are involved ,the DC resistance {OHMS}or number of turns of the wire,is a reference point for comparing the final "tone" of a given pickup..

Len:
Talked with Ed on the phone after receiving your email this am. He says he will wind a new single coil at 18,500 ohms. Should give you the accented highs you are looking for. Perhaps someone here can verify this.

Hi Graham:
Thanks for the recommendation about the pickup. I can't make the St. Louis convention this year but next year for sure. Ed Fulawka is the only man I ever met that could eat canned oysters at 4:00am. What a stomach!
