Anyone know the Rugg/Myrick "wonderlick"?

I remember reading on the Forum that these guys came up with a "lifesaving" lick on E9 that could be used anywhere on the neck...

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

You mean "The Amazing Speed Picking Course" by Myrick and Rugg? Tom Bradshaw has the Tab and Cas. # E14 for $12.00. It is well worth the money to get you on the right path for some fast picking.

You know, Scott, this is jogging my memory--it just might be a lick that Bruce Bouton teaches on his video course. I will have to go through the tape and see but I seem to recall that he credits one or both of those guys with a lick that has bailed him out of tough spots. Even if it is the one, tabbing it would be beyond me.

Drew,
I don't think this is the lick as refered to the "Amazing Speed Picking Course". It's been years since I've seen the tab, but I was playing around with it last night, (once I leanrned that thing, I never forgot it)but it is tabbed as a descending pattern that runs a whole eight bars. If I have time I'll try to tab the thing.

Scott and Chris,

I checked the Bruce Bouton video, and it sounds like he played the "wonder-lick" in a I-V-IV-I chord sequence, one key per measure. G, D, C, then G. Take the above lick, transpose it, and that's basically what BB had.

I don't think was called the wonder lick. It was called "The One Pedal, Two finger, Three string song." You can play it in any chord or any pattern of chords. I don't have the Tab, but you can call me and I'll teach it to you over the phone in about 3 minutes. Thats how easy it is. Then all you have to do is practice it to pick up your speed.

I'm taking lessons from Don Curtis and he played the Rugg/Myrick lick for me just the other day. He showed it to me in conjunction with my having asked him how to play a run from "Right or Wrong". Anyway it was Don's lead-in to teaching me pick blocking which apparently is the basis of the wonder lick. Don then sold me his pick blocking course which contains all the elements for playing the wonder lick. You can learn the lick from Myrick's course (I believe) but you'll get a lot more from Don's course for the same money.

Try www.iwc.com/scottys-music/index.html. Scotty's has all of Don's materials. Incidentally, I'm making great progress with the excercises... Don's system really works well.
