Some great Mike Johnson Playing

Post by Richard Sinkler »

Had to share this awesome song by Con Hunley, with Mike Johnson absolutely killing it with his awesome playing. Just listen to that tone.

Mike is such a great player... I see him on the Country Family Reunion, Larry's Diner, with 45 RPM, backing Alison Krauss, always playing heart felt steel and having a good time. Years ago I went to the steel show at Dallas and he and Joanie were there. I got to see him live on the main stage, and playing in some of the smaller sales rooms.

I just finished reading Jimmy Capps' biography, which was really great. He talked about Mike hiring him for the Country Family Reunion and then also playing with him on Larry's Country Diner, had only great words to say about him!

Well worth the read, 'The Man in Back' he mentions Hal Rugg and Weldon many times in the book as well!
Regards, Craig

This video of the simple two-chord A 11 knocks me out every time I play it, which is frequently. Hard to beat the tone of that red Emmons and the guy who plays it. "Eat your heart out, Lloyd Green!"

I met Mike in 1978 when my band opened for the great Mel Street at Classic Country Resturant in Arlington Va. He was a super pedal steeler already in Mel's band and good guy. Mike's the first pro player I heard ask us "are y'all pickers"? ....duh, yep! I guess we are!! Great times.
Retired my "Flying Pro III" playin' gigs with the "little bud" in the Northern Shenandoah Valley.
