24 String keyhead?

Post by Matthew Murray »

I was looking on ebay and I came across a 24 string key head that looks like a sho bud style head. Just wondering if anyone has seen it before.

I'd love to hear the story of the 24 string PSG that this was attached to ;-) Maybe it was tuned to some kind of open chord and was strummed rather than picking individual strings?

I wonder if someone had the idea of making a pedal steel with double courses of strings, like a 12-string guitar?

I can't see how that would work, though, as the change would only ever be in tune for one of the two strings in an octave pair.

Bill Stafford had a single neck 20 course string Excel pedal steel at the ISGC one year. It was keyless though. I asked how it was tuned and he said chromatics. I didn't ask for details but I assume is was sort of like a piano or the Alkire thing.

He told me he was delivering it either to someone or shipping it, I don't recall exactly, but it was not his.

That 24 string guitar must have been a mile long!

That was my 1st thought as well, then I noticed the string guide appears to have the 24 strings spaced equally not in close pairs...quite the mystery!
