Virgil Watts Steel Guitarist Passed away

Post by Terry Wood »

I am sad to announce this but Virgil Watts a Great Non Pedal Steel Guitarist here in Missouri has passed away on March 6, 2026. Virgil Watts was a good friend of mine and he was a great guy and wonderful non pedal Steel Guitarist. He was born 1934 in Oklahoma and played music all over the Midwest, Western and Southwest USA. He played as a special guest on my Annual Steel Guitar Shows several different years. I loved his Steel Guitar playing and he amazes me all the music that he could play on a non pedal Steel Guitar. We send our Prayers and sympathy for his family and his many friends.

Virgil Watts won several awards for his Steel Guitar playing and was inducted into several music hall of fames. His daughter is Starla Watts Queen a wonderful singer and plays several instruments. His son in law was the late Jimmy Queen one of the staff Drummers for Scotty's big Steel Guitar Show in St. Louis for many years. The whole family were very talented singers and musicians.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I met Mr. Watts at a Scotty's show about 15 years ago. He was a true gentleman and a very fine steel player. He sure got a beautiful tone out of his Dual Pro! My condolences to his family. -Bob Russell
Lots of stringy things, many of them slidey.
