Re: 4th string sitar sound
What make guitar? What brand of strings?
There seems to be some bad .014 4th string wire, Got out on the market that is causing problems. The Heat Treatment is not right on the wire. The string work hardens from bending over the changer finger, And lifts up off the changer finger and it sounds like the gremlin is trying to sing harmony with the string (Sitar).
I had a problem about a year ago. With 4th string then the 3rd .011 would start doing the gremlin harmony sound (Sitar). I contacted SIT and we discussed the problem.
My problem was on a GFI Ultra with Stainless Steel Changer Fingers. Since the changer fingers are hard, No groves. The string is being bent and flattening as its pulled.
Some sets of the strings would only sound right for a week, Of 2 hours or so a day playing. SIT sent me a few .014 and .011 strings, To help with the problem.
The last order of 6 sets of S12U strings, 1 set lasted about 2 months. I got a bad 4th .014, and 3rd .011 in the set I have on guitar, Had to replace 4 and 3.
Good Luck with .014 string, Happy Steelin.

Re: 4th string sitar sound
Thanks Bobby, they were indeed SIT strings but I've tried Jagwires,Stringjoy ,and GHS and same results with each brand. Its a Justice Judge I've had for about 13 years and never had this problem ,talked to Ron Anderson and may have to send it him for some new fingers and changer work ,its been played a ton and might be time for some loving care
