Track record of Tonemaster Twins?

Post by Andrew Frost »

I used a Tonemaser Twin a while ago in a backline situation and it was great.

I'd get one for myself but I'm struggling with accepting the whole computer chip digital thing.
I'd probably benefit from suspending my disbelief, and being a little more trusting of technology..

I know there's plenty of discussion about this amp but I'm interested specifically in the current track record of this unit, now that it has been around a while.

What has your experience been with it, in terms of dependability?

Thanks

Andy

Had mine since 2020 and no issues. But then it's not my only amp and I don't gig anymore. I still use it now and then but it's never been my favorite and that's coming from a guy who owns 2 Fender Silverface Twins. There was many posts on this amp back in 2020. Some changed speakers with positive results. I tried it by bypassing its internal speakers and sending to my old twin reverb cabinets and didn't feel the change was improved. Everyone has a different taste and you may enjoy the tone. It's great with my Telecasters so the tone thing depends on your needs.

Got mine in November 2019, and it was my main amp for a good three or four years. I now have had the Deluxe for one year and use it on almost all low volume gigs. They have both worked flawlessly for me. I also owned a second Twin for about a year that I left at a house gig, before realizing I like using my Marsh Tube amp there some of the time. I sold the second Twin to a friend in another band, and it's in his steady rotation.

I'm a big believer in the Tonemasters. I have swapped out some Jensens for Celestion Copperbacks, and my 40W Marsh is my best sounding and preferred amp. But if it's a very low volume gig I take the Deluxe, and it I need to compete with very loud guitars, especially when C6 will be called for, I take the Twin. I got caught off guard needing that capacity last Saturday when I had the Marsh, and I really wished I had bought the Twin.

Will they go bad at some point? No doubt. Will I be pissed that I have to send away for a motherboard to get the fixed? Yeah. Will they have been a worthwhile investment.? Absolutely.

Hi Andy, I've been using mine for about 4 years now on almost every live show. I've had 0 issues so it's very dependable. The only times I sometimes don't use it is when backline is supplied. Even then, if it's a tour where I can request backline, it's always my first choice. I recently did the update to the reverb which is an improvement to my ears. Every time I turn it on, it's loud, clean and has some of that Fender shimmer. Also, it's 33 lbs so fairly light. I love it and would recommend it to anyone.

I have had a Tonemaster Twin for about 3 years. Great amplifier. I have had zero problems with it. Lots of good features.
