A9th tuning, video clip
Hi,
I wonder how many of you have tried using an A9th tuning (based on E9th but a fifth down) as an alternative to C6th? I have experimented with it and really like it. Here is a short clip of me practicing playing some swing on that tuning to a backing track with the changes to All of me.

Hey Niklas. Very nice playing. I have experimented with several similar options on the back neck. I have just ordered a new MSA Legend that will have a B9th tuning on the back neck. B9 sort of flips the pedal up and pedal down positions around in a fun way. Ex: Instead of playing Ab on the 11th fret in the A+B position, it is at the 4th fret, where it would normally be the open position.
I had an octave down E9th at one point. It was fairly unusable below the 5th fret. Sounded like a pedal steel bass. Haha.
Enjoyed your playing. Keep it up!

Thanks guys.
Travis, I like the idea of a B9th tuning and actually tried that along with G9th but settled on A9th for tone/balance on my guitar. I love C6th but have always liked the concept of having the lower tuned neck on a D10 being kind of a continuation of the front neck range-wise and not a separate tuning. Sort of like the two manuals of an organ.
Looking forward to hearing your MSA when it arrives.

you are right Tony, a bump is required. great fluid playing by Nik. i have an old 3&2 steel tuned to A9. it's got a great sound down in that range. i'm keeping it that way.

Thanks. I'm thinking about string my C neck to A9 or A13.

for about 8 years i had a Fender 400 set up with Sneaky Pete's B6 tuning. being down in that register was really great, like playing a baritone guitar.
