Copedant for S12 Extended E9th guitar
I am planning to order an S12 extended e9th 3 x 5 tuning with traditional emmons setup but I have the option for extra changes, or pedals and knee levers. I am just a low intermediate player. What changes should I get in additional to the standard Emmons 3x5 setup. And also would you just add to the standard emmons setup. Thanks so much!

Hi Darrell,
I recommend two changes. First, a lever that flats the Bs to Bbs. Second, a pedal (I have it as the "0" pedal) which lowers your G#s to Gs.
Extended E9 is a great tuning.

Hi Darrell
When I switched to ext E9 the best advice on the forum came from BoB himself who suggested the 12 string 3 step lower to C# on the E raise lever. This gives you the root note on the A / F combination which is mighty! Couldn’t live without it! I’m also a big fan of raising 7 a half step on the RKR.
Cheers

Have a raise on the 11th G# string. Raise to A on the B pedal. Open 10 B - 11 G# - 12 E. an octave lower. With A&B pedals down, This gives you 10 C#-11 A- 12 E, An octave lower, That has some neat uses.
Good Luck in your jump to 12 E9th Ext.
Happy Steelin.

Hi Darrel, I've been playing Ext E9 for a long time and would recommend 4 Pedals and 5 Levers. My set-up is 0-A-B-C (left to right) I use the zero pedal for lowering the 3 G#'s to G. Great for boogie riffs and a minor chord. 4+5 should keep you busy for the next 15 years! I also raise the 4-5-8th strings a whole tone with the C pedal. Maybe get more changes now when the guitar is new and figure out what to do with them as you progress.

On Pedal 0, I raise string 6 G# to B and string 7 F# to G#. I also have the Franklin pedal after the C pedal. For an extended E9, I might also consider adding a drop D on the low E to be able to double guitar licks.

Re: Copedant for S12 Extended E9th guitar
On my Carter with 5 and 4 I have a 0 pedal that lowers 3, 6, and 11 to G natural. (lowering the 3rd string requires a pretty long pull) then I have the standard A, B, C pedals, and a 5th pedal that raises strings 5 and 6 a whole step to C# and A#. This is like one of the pedals on a C6 tuning - I think it's often P7, but I don't know how standardized C6 copedants are.
I have a KL that raises 1st string to G natural and 7th string to G# with a feel-stop at G natural.
I tune my 2nd string to D (a holdover from when I only had 2 KLs) and my 4th KL raises 2 to D# and lowers 9 to C#
I don't have a pedal or KL that lowers my Bs. It would be handy, but I have a very difficult time using a vertical lever.
On my Emmons with only 4 and 4 I omit the 0 pedal
Good luck making your choices. There is a ton of music just on basic E9 and with a few extra changes there is at least a ton and a half!

On my Excel I run a 6 pedal 5 knee lever setup. I thought I'd do the most sensible thing and just... copy most of Greg Leisz's copedent
