Jackson Steel in 2026
The pedal steel guitar I'm sitting behind is this picture is the pedal steel guitar I've been playing for almost 16 years now-April 24th, 2026 will represent its' 16th year with me. I got this steel when I was twenty-nine years old. On April 20th, 2010, Harry and David Jackson built this steel for me after I'd talked with them in March of 2010. On April 23rd, 2010, my mom, dad, and I got in the car and drove from Pickens, South Carolina to Lebanon, Tennessee, and stayed in a hotel, and I remember falling asleep, dreaming about what Jackson Steel I was going to get. So, on April 24, 2010, it was a rainy Saturday, and we got in our rental car, a Toyota Camry, and drove to Harry Jackson's house, and found out the steel guitars were built in his garage. In Harry's garage, there were several Jackson steel guitars set up for me to try out, and David Jackson let me try out maybe three or four guitars-a Jackson Blackjack, a Jackson Blackjack Custom, a Shot Jackson Commemorative steel, and a Jackson Ultra Lite-I tried the Custom out first and loved how it played, then tried out the Jackson Blackjack, and by then, the weather was getting pretty rough, so I decided to put the bar down-I was using a bar with grooves on it at the time, and when the weather had calmed down, I was sitting behind one of the guitars and David and Harry asked me which guitar I like best, and I told them the Blackjack Custom is the best, and David smiled and said, "The Blackjack Custom is the guitar we built for you", and after I got it, Dawn Jackson called David to see if I had gotten it, and he let her talk to me. I told Dawn I had gotten it, and she laughed and said, "That's awesome!" My equipment for steel playing has now changed because I'm no longer using the grooved bar-the black bar you see in this picture is my brand new Ezzee Slide polymer steel guitar tone bar-I chose a black bar to match the color of the guitar, and I got the bar for Christmas this year and when not in use, it stays between the pad and neck of my steel. I now have two Ezzee Slide bars-the first one was white, but the black one is my favorite, since it matches my steel.
