I'd love a steel covered with '60s-correct Oyster Black Pearl, like the famous Ringo's famous Ludwigs! Now that I could get into (the Precision stuff just isn't quite right on that colour, though - too dark; they're all too dark these days)....

Here's a Marrs S-10 I had a few years ago. This guitar came to me minus all the parts underneath. I made new parts and eventually replaced the body too.

vintage sky blue covering

Post by steve takacs »

Frank,
Wow, thanks for that address of:

www.precisiondrum.com

Besides many sparkle coverings, they have one that is similar to, if not the same as, the one Fred Justice uses on some of his steels. It is called " Vintage sky blue"on the drum site. The second is on a steel Fred made for Weldon Myrick. I think he calls the color "mint ripple" Again, thanks, Frank, I'm going to order some, stevet

Color Samples

Post by Glenn Uhler »

Precision Drum used to offer a folder with little squares of each of their wraps; of course that was before nice color pictures were available on the 'net. That was also before the 'net, too. They may still provide samples if you ask.

No exactly sparkle but more pearloid finish. Looks amazing under the lights!

Re: Sparkle finish steels

So I'm resurrecting this old thread.... Has anyone actually used a sparkle drum wrap on a steel? I have one on order and really want a sparkle finish, but I'm afraid the drum wraps may be more prone to scratches than traditional mica finishes based on some sparkle samples I received. Anybody have experience with drum wrap longer term?

Thanks
Gabriel

I saw the shobuds - do you know if they're covered in drum wrap? It seems likely, I guess. All the tops look to be black - I wonder if that's a cost cutting measure or if they didn't think it was durable enough for the top...?

I played this blue-sparkle Carter for a while. A buddy of mine special-ordered it, and I believe a drum wrap was used.

Ok... That's promising. I was hoping there might be a precedent among builders.
