Where do you buy strings these days?

Post by Matthew Walton »

With Frenchy's Steelmill strings being long gone, and Just Strings closing up shop, where are y'all buying your strings for custom sets these days? Especially if you're after custom gauges, like us poor Bb6 Universal players.

I know D'Addario came out with their custom string set builder, and seems like StringJoy has some options as well.

Any other good options I should know about?
If something I wrote can be interpreted two ways, and one of the ways makes you sad or angry, I meant the other one.

String Joy does indeed allow custom gauge sets. They sound great and last longer than some of the other major brands I’ve tried.

Hi Matthew,

I get mine at Guitar Strings and Beyond. They have a decent price on the strings I use.

I would suggest the forum store to help our hosts keep the lights on https://steelguitarshopper.com/categories/Strings/

If the forum store sells the strings you like, I also recommend them. Unfortunately, they no longer sell Live Steel Strings brand, but I seem to remember that they used to.

I've been using Live Steel Strings for 20 years and they're the only Strings I'll use.
They're dependable and hold their resonance for a long time.

Daddario NYXL E9th set and I buy single 6th strings since I use a wound 6th. They last a really long time without going dead.
Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous; praise is meet for the upright. Give praise to the Lord with the harp, chant unto Him with the ten-stringed psaltery. Sing unto Him a new song, chant well unto Him with jubilation. For the word of the Lord is true, and all His works are in faithfulness. The Lord loveth mercy and judgement; the earth is full of the mercy of the Lord.
- Psalm 33:1-5
