The John Zeidler Pedal Steel

Post by Dan Beller-McKenna »

About two thirds of the way down this page is a brief history of the pedal steel guitar built by the late John Zeidler. I was the original owner before selling it to the late John McGann @1990, who, I believe still owned it when he died in 2012. Out of simple sentimental curiosity, I am trying to find out what if anything became of the steel. I don't believe it sold on the open market: such a unique instrument would have been very visible, and probably would have left an internet trace. I have been trying to reach people who were close to John McGann (I never knew his family) and who might know, but so far without success.

Does anyone know anything about the whereabouts of this guitar?

I'm still trying to track this steel down. So far every possible connection I've pursued has been a dead end, although recently Michael Bean has offered to ask around in Boston with people who knew John McGann.

Finally located this picture of me playing the steel at one of Harry Guffee's shows (1982??)
