Wah-Wah Button

Post by Paul Strojan »

I have a Fender 2000 with iffy previously modified electronics and I am inclined to get creative with the electronics. I already have both volume and tone control with my volume pedal so I was thinking about replacing the volume knob with a stutter switch and the tone knob with some sort of a wah boost to replicate the old Speedy West licks.

I remember hearing Speedy put a doorbell switch on his steel for the flutter-wah...

My electronics whiz friend converted the tone knob on my Fender 1000 to a boo-wah button. It is a fun effect. I also had a 50s Gibson that had built in stutter and boo-wah buttons. The problem is the buttons can be a little noisy. I eventually converted the 1000 back to a stock tone knob.

Here is a clip where I use the boo-wah at 2:14:

Here is a track where Al Petty uses the effect liberally:

I think the noise was from clipping the signal. I think a plunger that could sweep from off to on would be a lot more useable.
