NGD, it's acoustic!

Post by Glenn Wilde »

No pedals though
I've been wanting one of these for at least 35 years and got by fine with a Republic knockoff but now, here she is, a bucket list guitar for me,
1928-9 National style 1. I'm pretty ecstatic right now.

Congratulations! That guitar should be on everyone’s bucket list. I’d love to know if you had the opportunity to try other vintage nationals and can speak about the tones. I’m always tempted to buy one online but I’ve heard they don’t all sound amazing. Iv had one on loan from a good friend and it’s the best guitar tone Iv ever heard. I bet the harmonics are outstanding!

Thanks, I have played four or five others through the years, one obviously needed work so we won't count that one, all the other ones sounded great, as does this one. I got this at Gryphon in Palo Alto CA. and they also had a '28 style 4, I thought this one sounded a bit better, which is good because a 4 is outta my price range. Yes, the chimes are strong with this one!
I guess if you're stuck having to order one, talk to them and ask a ton of questions, also see about the return policy, it's very rare to find two in a shop to try.

Nothing sounds as magical as a Tricone! I have a newer National (mahogany body, not metal) and I really love that special sound.

Congratulations Glenn! I've never played a National but I do have a Republic tricone which is OK but I'll bet that National is superior!

Thanks buddy, the good news for you is, I also have a Republic and it's a great guitar, not far off at all, yes, the National has that little something extra, but the Republic is a fine guitar, I'm keeping it! Sebastian Muller also has a Republic as well as a National and still used his Republic.
I made sure to buy a round neck when I got my Republic, so I can play it either way, it's currently in high G with a nut extension, I always planned to get a vintage National Hawaiian.

Hey, anybody know where can I buy one of these "nut extensions"? I looked on Elderly, no dice. I had one years ago, and now I am considering a round neck reso (for the price difference), but pretty much only want to slide.
Peace thru music,
Bo

Shouldn't be impossible to find but if you still need one, I'm sure I've got one laying around. I can send you one.
