Ed Black tab - Silver Threads & Golden Needles - Ronstadt

Here is tab for another great solo from Linda Ronstadt's remarkable catalog, the killer solo from Silver Threads & Golden Needles. While this is pretty close to Ed Black's rendition, it appears that Red Rhodes actually created the solo and played it with L.R. on an earlier album ("Hand Sown... Home Grown") and then she re-recorded it a few years later on the album "Don't Cry Now", on which Ed pretty much replicated Red's solo, albeit with a very different tone. Hope the tab will be of interest to some Forumites.

Oh, this is a 6-year-old thread that I’m sorry to see I started myself. When I got the notice of the new addition to it, I checked in to see if maybe I could learn something from it like a new way to play it better myself. Oh well. Lol!

Thanks for catching that, Karen. My error. Just use B&C (the A pedal change is already covered by the C pedal). Surprise no one else has brought that up yet. Good on you..

thanks Jim I figured as much. thanks for the transcription I learned most of it by ear but missed a few spots and your tab cleared them up for me. Im learning it an octave down for now bc its hard to get the notes above the 19th fret!

Yes, the intonation up there is very tricky. I'm not always happy with how mine turns out...

I was present at the "Home Sown..." sessions and I know that Red used a fuzz tone and a phase shifter to record the Silver Threads solo. I never asked Eddie what he used for his version but I think it was probably similar in setup.

My recollection is that Red’s was a lot fuzzier than Ed’s.

FWIW, it was played on a ZB, and Ed had his steel set up Day.
