Tremolo on Steel

Lately I've been kind of obsessed with the sound of tremolo on steel guitar. I never liked it much in the past, but I recently got a J Rockett pedal called Mr. Moto (spring reverb & trem) and I'm really digging it. Just made this short clip, a little bit of Rebel Rouser.

I love tremolo on steel. I have to force myself not to overuse it. I have a Boss with an Analogman mod(fixes the volume drop) and a Danelectro, which has a great but subtle warble.

I’m working on a full video of this tune, Rebel Rouser, using tremolo. It’ll be on 7-string lap steel, E6 tuning.

I thought of getting a trem pedal but since trem is just fluctuations of volume, I started using my vol.pedal instead. RP

I too use the volume pedal for tremolo effect sometimes, especially at the end of a song, the last chord.

I’ve always been a big fan of tremolo and vibrato. When it’s used in the right place it becomes hypnotic.

I grew up having access to Leslies and great Fender amps, and one of my favorites was a 1966 Super Reverb. The tremolo on that is hard to beat. Pop Staples used it so well. I used a slow tremolo on Round Midnight but it was a Twin Reverb which doesn’t have that epic Super Reverb slowness.

I have a Fender Tremolux from the mid '50's and it sure is fun to play some funky C6 bass lines or some mellow slow jazz chords with it. Flipping the Tremolo switch degrades the tone significantly so it's a little limited. Talked to an amp guy and he said that's what they do, degrade the tone on these old fenders.

I had a 65 Fender Super Reverb that I bought new,,,last year of the black face...I knew the trem sounded good, but I didnt realize it was as epic as Mike Neer pointed out...i was just a dumb kid in high school, what did I know...haha
