Hi lapsteelers !

Serious job this time ... can I play Moonlight Serenade on a six string lapsteel?
It took some weeks to find out, and to learn to play it reasonably.

Slants are a nice challenging part of lapsteel, but now I entered the area of 3-tone slants!
In theory most of the time it's not possible to play 3 notes at a pure pitch in a slant position.
But by practicing you can find an avarage chord that sounds good enough for most ears (I think ).

See my first comment, Francesco.
A lapsteel is not a piano.
You have to "tune" your notes yourself, just like a violin player ...
So with these three notes, think of 4-5-7 of your scale, and try to come as close as possibl e.
Luckely there's something before and something after, don't fixate on the moment ...

Man, you hit me hard with that one...

Been playin music for +/-30 years and now everything seems to be fallin apart... but no! I will work hard on this one, and luckily overcome the new challenge.

Need to listen with my inner ear, not with my eyes......
There's some kind of mental block that tells you a priori "it won't work" cause we're educated that way, i think.

I didn't mean to confuse your world, Francisco.
In fact as a player I feel a beginner,
but finding out things by yourself creates new views!

Just try, after a few weeks it'll be in your fingers.
By the way, another one to work on in this same idiom could be Mood Indigo.

And . . . coincidence or not . .
Just a few weeks ago I was filling my time with carving aerated concrete ...

I find it easiest to use a finger-pull rather than a slant for that chord:

I keep the bar on the 4th fret and pull the 3rd string with my 4th finger, raising it a 1/2 step.
A little awkward at first, but it gets easier with practice

Hi Bert.
I messed around with string pulls playing resonator.
It's a little easier with lighter string gauges.
