When It's Your Turn To Fall - Buddy Emmons solo

Post by Ron Funk »

I was reading a post in the Pedal Steel section about whether its best to play two notes or three.

I remembered another Buddy Emmons solo I had tabbed out a number of years ago from Johnny Bush's CD entitled "Lost Highway Saloon."

This song is named "When It's Your Turn to Fall" and Buddy played some beautiful two note harmonies for his melodic solo.

I'll post link to YouTube via separate Post

Hope you find it worthy of your time -

Fiddle solo at 2:10 followed by Buddy Emmons' solo at 2:40

Simple,
and yet so effective.

One of the commenters mentions that the steel player is not Buddy Emmons but Bobby Flores.

Very possible that it’s Bobby Flores. He’s as good as anyone on many instruments.
I don't know much but what I know I know very well.
Carter S-10 3X5, Peavey Nashville 112, plus Regal dobro and too many other instruments to mention.
Bluegrass Island CFCY FM 95.1 Charlottetown, PE, Canada, on the web at cfcy.fm.

Allmusic lists Bobby Flores, Buddy Emmons and Tommy Detamore so take your pick.

Bobby may have been in the CD, but this is Buddy. Johnny made mention of Buddy’s intro and solo.

BTW: Nice job, Ron!
My best,
Ernie

Hey, John...

This tab was written out by Ron Funk of his interpretation of what Buddy played on Johnny Bush’s recording.

Thanks, Ernie. Had your website logo on it, so wondered about the source.

You’re welcome! Ron has copied a sheet of tab paper that he got from Buddy at a seminar. I haven’t marked my tabs. (I probably should...)

Hi John -

Re/ concern for origin of my recent tablature posts...My tabs/posts are strictly where I think each passage was played....including the timbre(?) of strings being played.

For example, after the two pick up notes in this specific tab, the same notes for the first grip can also be found at the 13th fret with A pedal & E to F knee lever. It just sounds better to me to capture the long slide from 15th fret w/ E to Eb lever, down to the 12th fret with A pedal.

'absolutely no pride of Tab-authorship here, so if Anyone has suggestions on the accuracy of the posted tab, please comment so Others may also benefit for our collective PSG journeys.

If the BE logo is of concern, I can easily remove in the future.....It is Not my intent to mislead anyone.

Hope the above clarifies your concerns.

Regards,
Ron
