I'm sorry to report that dobro player extraordinaire, Stacy Phillips has passed from a massive heart attack. RIP, Stacy Phillips!

The dobro community is in shock today.

A terrific out-of-the-box player. Bluegrass, Hawaiian, Klezmer, Afro-Semitic..you name it. Stacy was on the bleeding edge of it.

Consummate educator. He wrote the two bibles of Dobro playing, "The Dobro Book" and "The Complete Dobro Player". Highly sought out for instruction and seminars.

Master of the Archduke finger puppet. He was a real character in the finest sense of the word.

I will miss him.

I'm so sorry to hear this.
We had Stacy play at our PSGA shows many times.
The last time I saw him was at the celebration for Nick DeMaio in CT.
I played with him onstage with all the other musicians for Nicks tribute.

oh.. I am so devastated by this news. Stacy was my first Dobro teacher, I used to go to his apartment up in Ct. for my first lessons. What a great guy and a great player. I'm am so so sad to read this news.

His books are a boon to players everywhere & I'm so glad I have them.

I attended Common Ground in Westminster,MD when I was just getting going on dobro ('98? '99?). Stacy and Dave Giegerich were the instructors. They were both great instructors, extremely knowledgeable and supportive. I attended Common Ground the following year and Mike Auldridge was the master class instructor. I am so sad that all three of these fine musicians and teachers are gone. Their dedication to the instrument, to teaching and to music was an inspiration that continues to this day. RIP Stacy, Dave and Mike A.

I sure wish I’d met him in person, but so grateful to have met him through his seminal instruction materials. I wonder how many folks there are around the world who were touched by his scholarship, teaching, and humor. I learned so much from him and frequently revisit his great books. Thanks, Stacy.

He was one in a million. Just bursting with ideas, and boundless enthusiasm for all kinds of things. And his humour cracked me up. This was very sad news for the dobro world.

I'm shocked and sad......in the 70's I would come home after work and sit down in my room with The Dobro Book (with that little vinyl record) for hours at a time and that's how I learned.....I met Stacy once.....he was a good guy.....RIP

I never met Stacy other than through his fine book, The Complete Dobro Player. Through that treatise, I felt we touched base somewhat. RIP Mr Dobro Man. Stevet

Such a loss. Stacy really left his mark on the dobro world - I know I learned so much from him even having never met him. I always enjoyed and appreciated his sense of humor too. RIP.

Talk about a Twilight Zone story...A friend of mine came by and gave me Stacy's Dobro book. I was glancing through it, and just happened to go to the Forum a few minutes later and saw where Stacy had passed that same day. What a weird feeling.
