I didn't come to steel guitar until 13 years ago when I was 60. But, as a high school junior in 1960, Don taught me to play the six string guitar.....amazing and inspirational teacher. My first lessons were with Don at Dellview Music and I clearly remember working with him on Wild Wood Flower. Wish I had gotten back to see him before he passed. I've often thought about Don over the years, prompted on several occassions by references to him on this forum. RIP my friend.

I never had the privilege of meeting him; but, I've heard lots of good stories about him over the years.

There are only two options as I see it.
Either I'm right, or there is a sinister conspiracy to conceal the fact that I'm right.

The Don Pack
All I have to say is pretty much what Bob Shelton wrote except that I only knew Don 10-12 years. Like so many of us I sure wish I'd gone to see them more....God Bless.

Don Pack
Wanted to pass along my heartfelt condolences to Gayle, her family and the extended Dellview Music family. I only met Don a short four and a half years ago when at the age of 50 I walked in and asked him if he could teach an old dog a new trick. I had 0, none, nada music experience but I wanted to learn. Since that 1st lesson almost four and a half years ago I have missed two days of playing. Playing has become my therapy and Don was my therapist. I never told him but I'm sure he knew I would have paid the $15 for a half hour lesson just to come in and talk to him. Often the 30 min lesson would turn into 45 mins of playing with another 20-30 minutes of just talking about music history or just life in general. Numerous times after the lesson I would stick around and talk with Don and Gayle out at the front counter and Gayle would have to tell me as I was walking out the door " Hey, You gonna pay me!" and all because they treated me and I sure felt like family. God Bless you Don and see you later because I have NO DOUBT we will meet again.
