One of my biggest influences ever. Can we make the case that Moon was THE original steel player of the 'Bakersfield Sound'?

Either way, he could make such few notes go so far.

Ralph Mooney was by far my biggest influence. Rainy Day Woman started me down the long road of steel guitar.

"Such few notes".... I'd say he probably played a lot more notes in his solos than most other steel players and on fewer strings....JH in Va.
Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!!

Good point... I probably should've said "such simple lines"...

I wasn't on the list in 2011. Godspeed Mr. Mooney! I'm a big fan of your work as are others! You've left the good seeds of PSG behind you. Thank you Sir!

If I could play like one, and only one steel player--it would be Ralph Mooney! Waylon called him, "the worlds best steel player", for a reason! -Jake- :)

I met Ralph in the Wynn Stewart days, Wynn was at Georges Roundup # one then he helped me get the job a Georges #2. So I got to know Ralph and loved him . Got to visit with him in Dallas a few times, one of the last times I got to get up and sing a song with him and thank God someone took a picture of that and I guard that with my life. I have some other stories about Ralph but will save that for another time. You know what? I'm an old man now but I still love all you pickers. I only played guitar and bass and sang but. I just love you steel players.
