Royce Tarver

Post by Danny Harrell »

I received a call from Royce Tarver's wife Linda that Royce passed away early Saturday morning. He had been ill for awhile. Many will remember Royce, the fast "chicken picker" from Prarieville, LA. who also worked with the Hinsons back in the early 80's. Royce also played frequently at the Gulfport Ms. Show. He was a talented musician and friend. He could always make you smile. He took me as his student some 35 years ago and has been my friend since. I have always considered him to be one of the best players I've ever been around. Great person, friend, husband, and father. I attribute much that I have learned to this great musician. He will be missed. I am sure that he is playing in the Angel Band.

Sad news, Thanks for letting me know Danny. Royce was a great player and very fast like some of the well known speedsters. He will be missed. My condolences to Linda and family.

Nice pic Danny. Lot of focus and intensity on both your faces. Folks that pic shows two great steel pickers at work. Royce will be missed.

I'm sorry to say that I never met Royce. I received this touching note from Linda (his wife) in the mail today, along with a donation in his honor:
Gentlemen:

My husband, Royce Tarver passed away December 5, 2015. He was a member of the Forum for many years. When he was too sick to do anything else, he would manage to pull the forum up on his computer and look through the selections you provided.
Thank you, Linda, and thanks to all of you who make good enough conversation to comfort our fellow players here on the forum in their hour of need.

Rest in peace, Royce.
