I received a call from Smiley Roberts informing me that his former Boss and my good friend has passed away. T.O. produced my first Nashville session that meant many years of work for me. RIP T.O.

So sorry to hear of this...Tommy was a great entertainer....I met him briefly in Nashville at Gene Breeden's studio in 2001 when I was there to cut my first CD....he will be missed.

I became friends with Tommy here in Oregon, where he lived. We had several good lunches together where he shared his life experiences with the most interesting stories. I have the book he wrote about his experiences, and well worth reading. I last took him to a local steel guitar jam where he was met with great respect and adulation by everyone there. His friendly and kind manner will be missed. He was a true gentleman! May his soul rest in peace.

Thank you for making this post and tribute to Tommy.
This is the very same book, Joe. I will always treasure having met Tommy. I used to hear my Father's radio playing, and the song Heaven Is My Woman's Love came to mind immediately when I first met him. If there is a funeral, I plan to attend.

I'm sorry to hear of T.O.'s passing.

We did several package shows back in the 70s, early 80s with T.O.. It was always fun 'cause I got to visit with Smiley. Tommy was a nice person and his band were good guys.

Another one of the good guys gone...

My deepest sympathies go out to the family. Thanks for keeping us informed Joe.

Sincerely,
Chris "Tiny" Olson

The very first concert I attended was a bill featuring Merle Haggard and Tommy Overstreet. It was an experience I'll never forget.... Tommy's singles featured a lot of great steel work....I miss those records...

Met Tommy and Smiley in Scottsbluff Nebraska in the winter of 1971...I was with Steve Bledsoe at another club, and we all were staying at the same motel...Tommy's bus got high centered and both bands helped to push it out...Tommy was a very nice guy, and we had a great couple of days with him and Smiley.....Memories!

My condolences to the Overstreet family. Sorry for your loss. In the past, I had the opportunity to do a "throw-together" kind job for a fundraiser in Abilene, TX with Tommy. He was bar none, one of nicest big name guys I ever played with. He spoke favorably of his steel player, Smiley Roberts and made the night a fun one with no pressure. RIP Tommy
