Mac 10.6.8 and Norton

I use Pro Tools Le with an 002, and I have taken Pro Tools and my operating system as far as they will go and still work together. I am having an "end of life" situation with Norton, leaving me with little computer security. What is the best way to secure my mac, leaving the existing operating system as it is ?

I use the one computer for both on-line use as well as recording. I am trying to avoid buying a new computer for on-line use. Norton will not support 10.6.8 any longer. Up to this point, I have had no problems with what I have. That could change soon.
