Blue Screen and Restart Popup
Anybody know what this means? I somehow got a Blue Screen? had to do a restart? Is something going out like a video driver or something? I was watching a western on YouTube when it just happened. Then I got this pop up?

There is a very technical description of this BSOD error on Microsoft.com. After cutting out the crap, it all boils down to a problem with the video drivers. Have you updated the video drivers lately? Have you run Windows Updates recently, prior to this problem? Is this the first time you got this BSOD?
If you installed new video drivers, rollback to the previous set. If you let Windows Update install a recommended or optional update that included video drivers, uninstall it.

IMO, it probably does relate to hardware drivers, and video drivers could be the culprit. But it could also be something else. Could be most anything, or drivers for more than one device not playing nicely together. BSODs happen for lots of reasons.Wiz Feinberg wrote:it all boils down to a problem with the video drivers...If you installed new video drivers, rollback to the previous set. Thanks Fella's. I haven't updated, or installed anything that I can think of. I'll look to see if there is an upgrade to do from windows for video drivers. But no new programs or anything. Yes I've gotten this 3 or 4 times now. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll look around, but I won't touch or break anything.

Microsoft has been sneaking in video driver updates along with other Windows Updates. Some computers have been unable to boot into virtual mode until the bad video driver update was uninstalled from Safe Mode.

Next suggestion would be to run the system file check, since you state nothing's changed. Just another thing to try: With admin privileges, run, in a dos box (cmd), sfc /scannow.George Redmon wrote:Thanks Fella's. I haven't updated, or installed anything that I can think of.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I bought a windows 7 disk on ebay that reinstalls Windows seven and saves all old files to a new directory. I was surprised that it actually works real well.
I get blue screens most often when I run old programs that were written for xp. I mentioned the ebay disk because after I start getting blue screens it always continues to get worse until I reinstall wndows or use the restore feature. I like the ebay disk because I don't have to save a bunch of files first.

Not sure I understand all that. Even if "old files" get saved, a Windows reinstall creates a registry that has no way of knowing anything about any software that was installed in the previous Windows installation. That means the new Windows install won't run that software, even if it's still on the drive. What am I missing here?James Quillian wrote:I bought a windows 7 disk on ebay that reinstalls Windows seven and saves all old files to a new directory. The blue screen of death is really bad if you have high blood pressure, anxiety or panic disorders. Make sure you have lots of medication nearby.
