I lost my Buddy too.

Post by Ron Pruter »

I'm not being flippant about the great Buddy Emmons' death but I'm writing this through tear filled eyes.
I lost my K-9 buddy today of 17 and a half years. He was growing weaker and weaker everyday and I just couldn't carry his 70# body outside to go to the bathroom anymore. By now, Winston was mostly blind, mostly deaf and for the last couple days we had to lift him from room to room. He was loyal, smart, and beautiful. He used to inspire me by laying at my feet while I practiced steel. Just glancing over at him used to bring on a peaceful feeling. His absence is overwhelming. There's a huge Goldie/Aussie sized hole in my heart.

Ron...so sorry to hear about this. We lost our Yorkie of 13 years just over a year ago and still miss her. They are a part of our families...an important part.

Ron, please accept my sincere condolences on your loss. I know all too well how deep a hole this can leave in ones life. It seems I have suffered many along the way, but I just try to remember the good times and carry on as I know they would want me to.

Ron, sorry to hear about your loss. A beloved pet isn't just an "animal". The sense of loss than that is felt when one passes is very real. That is a great picture of him, and your post is a nice tribute as well.

Sorry about Winston. That old saying about a man's best friend is certainly true.

Your little Bud (Winston) What a sweet
little pal he was. I can tell he had a lot
of love for his master.
I feel your pain & loss. It's hard but you will
get threw this.
I hope you will find another little bud to rescue
from the streets(shelters) or death row.
& give him a for ever home.
There's better days ahead.
Take care my friend.

Thanks everyone. We thought we were alone for feeling SOOOOO bad, but we're finding out quite the opposite. The house feels so empty. We were truly blessed with a great dog that did his job perfectly. If only I could do my job perfectly. I don't even know what it is yet.

Condolances to you Ron.
Like the song says, "after 20 years he still grieves".
At one point, I was teaching my dogs how to drive.

Hope this brightens your day!

I'm sorry for your loss Ron. We are going through the same thing with our little Pom. Some days good, some bad and some really bad and then she perks up like a puppy. We just enjoy her while she's here and let her know she is loved and keep the pain down.....this is one of those bumps in the road we have heard so much about....Take care Ron...jr

MY BEST FRIEND©
Written by: Gary Watkins and Bill Shaffer

You look at me with love and trust and it tears me up
You’ve been my best friend since we were both just a pup
I can’t say that it won’t hurt and I won’t pretend
I’ll miss you more than you know, cause you’re my best friend

People think I’m foolish for acting this way
They don’t understand what I’m trying to say
I’ve been through some hard times I thought would never end
But you were there to see me through cause you’re my best friend

I’ve got to set you free from the pain you’re going through
One last ride down the road and you don’t have a clue
To keep you hanging on like this would only be a sin
To some you act just like a dog but to me you’re my best friend

Sometimes I’d be gone for days and you’d be all alone
You would act just like a kid when I finally got home
Looking back on your life makes me start to grin
My life’s been better because you here and you were my best friend

The vet says it’s almost over and it’s tearing me apart
My eyes are burning, it’s hard to breathe and there’s a pain in my heart
You lay your head on my leg to say this is not the end
You’ll wait for me at heaven’s gate cause you’re my best friend

I’ve got to set you free from the pain you’re going through
One last ride down the road and you don’t have a clue
To keep you hanging on like this would only be a sin
To some you act just like a dog but to me you’re my best friend
To keep you hanging on like this would only be a sin
To some you act just like a dog but to me you’re my best friend
If you succeed in cheating someone, don't think that the person is a fool. It's just that the person trusted you far more than you deserved.

Thanks Gary.
Is that a song you wrote?

Laying there after the final injection, God blessed me big time. Winston kept trying to lick my hand but couldn't find the strength. Finally his last attempt. He was able to do it. Three or four times. Thank you Lord.
