A Facebook Question? Bishop Ronnie P. Hall

Post by Bishop Ronnie P Hall »

Hi Mr. Feinberg,
Or whoever can help this situation.
Upon entering onto the internet for Facebook, within 25 - 30 seconds the screen freezes, and of course it says; program is not responding. At first I thought it was a problem with facebook, but after several inquiries to both Facebook and others, I raised the question in general with google, and the general internet, I found that this is a major event throughout the internet. There are thousands who are asking the same thing. Let me also say that I`m still poking along with my windows XP unit, and this began some months before the microsoft cut off date. Now I must also say, that this freezing thing only happens on the Facebook Page, not on any other sites.
One other thing more, my wife just bought a brand new Dell computer, and the same thing happens on her unit. Facebook is not responding to any enquiries (that I know of) and as I said there are thousands who are asking the same things. Any answers or help would be appreciated. Thanking you in advance.

Bishop Hall;
What brand and version is your web browser? If you are using Microsoft's Internet Explorer, it may have become bogged down by unplanned installations of toolbars and "helpers." IE is one of the most frequently exploited browsers, especially versions prior to IE 10.

Note, the last version of IE that installs into XP is version 8.0. XP is now officially one month out of support.

Aside from a bogged down browser, there is something else going on web-wise. That is the tightening up of the security protocol known as https. I have noticed that since the big news about a vulnerability known as Heartbleed, all https web pages on Apache servers, which were patched for Heartbleed, have slowed to a crawl.

Hi again Mr. Feinberg,
First of all I thank you for your prompt response.
I have a Microsoft Internet Explorer #8, and just for the record, I`ve tried all of the recommends that microsoft could offer, you know, go onto the "manage add on`s etc".and the "tool bar tests and helpers" too. It seems I contracted this problem a long ways before the deadline, that Microsoft levied. As I had stated, it began actually in 2013, in about may. And I had upgraded to the IE version to 8.0 sometime in August of 2013. The strange thing was this began rather slowly, which made me think that Facebook had something to do with it. To what degree, I dont know. I do know that Facebook is the only website, that does this. Also as I stated, when I googled this problem, I discovered that I wasn`t the only one that had this problem. Try it yourself on google, you will see what I mean. There also must be about 10 million remedies that dont work, plus microsofts suggestions in that bunch that does`nt work either. Hence I turn to the master of computers on the forum, to see if I can get some answers. (smile) Any suggestions are welcomed.
Ron

Ron;
Would you be willing to install and try out a different make of browser? If so, both Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox will offer to import your Cookies, Logins and Favorites (which then become "Bookmarks") from Internet Explorer. Doing this will allow you to hopefully just open the browser, type "facebook.com" into the "address bar" and press enter. If you have to type in your credentials, doing so will cause a box to appear in the browser, asking if you want it to remember those login credentials for that website. The choice is yours to say yay or nay.

You may find that one of these alternate browsers is faster at logging in. If so, you can continue to use it as you wish.

I have to go play at a gig tonight. Hopefully, this helps in the meantime.

Hi Wiz! (Mr. Feinberg)
Thanks for your suggestions. I had thought to try another browser, and so that does seem to be my next step. So I will! Hopefully it will end the pain. (smile) Thanks for your help, and good playing on your gig.

I've been getting the same problem as Ronnie for months. And I get a similar problem on the Steel Guitar Forum if I try to use the "Search" function. I've tried Firefox and Chrome and they don't help. At the moment I'm using America Online, as I have for years. And, like Ronnie, I have Windows XP Pro on all my computers and have no desire to upgrade to another version just because MicroSoft won't support XP any more. :(
