Gary Watson, Las Vegas, NV

Post by Billy Easton »

Our friend and SWSGA member Gary Watson has lost his battle with cancer. Kenny Morris, his compadre, called me this morning to let me know that Gary has gone. He was a good man, and a friend to everyone. Our condolences to his family. He will be missed.

This is hard to believe... Gary & Kemo were always at the shows , and the life of the party. Gary knew about a lot of mechanical things too...I remember the time he went under my motorhome in Az . He changed the gas filter and got real greasy... but , he got me running again. He could also work on steel guitars . He kept several of the Vegas guys going. So sad ! JF

So sorry to hear this - he won the steelseat at the January show and said that he hoped he get to set on it and listen to steel guitar music for a long time. Then he paused and said but I am afraid to it won't more than likely be that long. then paused again and said Joe I'm not doin too well.

RIP Our Friend

Sad now :(... I always enjoyed seeing Gary at the shows, talking about old mutual friends like Hap Arnold, guitars, etc. He sure didn't look good in January so I'm saddened but not surprised. RIP ol' buddy.

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?

Sad news, but not unexpected. Gary was a great guy, master mechanic and a good friend. I'm playing his Emmons guitar now. He got it new as a tenth anniversary LeGrande and a significant portion of his soul still resides in that guitar. Every time I play it I'll remember him fondly.
RIP my friend.

I sure hate to hear my little buddy is gone. Every time we talked on the phone, which was quiet often he would keep on talking forever way after it was time to hang up. He'd always bring up a new subject and go on and on. I always enjoyed it though. I told him about the Dallas TSGA and he said he was going to come to the next one no matter what and he did. The first time he came to the Dallas TSGA he was by his self. He flew down and he said it cost him over a thousand bucks but he wasn't going to miss another one and he didn't until the Phoenix shows started. Him and Kenny Morris (Kemo) later went to that one because it was lots closer and they could drive together. He always wanted me to bring 4 cases of Coors beer to Dallas because he couldn't bring any on the plane. The first thing he did was make friends with Ralph Mooney. Ralph took to him pretty quick and they were good friends and Gary always carried Ralph's gear and helped him setup on stage. Ralph called him "Vegas". After that Gary always brought his best friend Kenny Morris (Kemo) along. After that the 4 cases of Coors wasn't enough. They always had to make another beer run on Friday night:-). I'm sure gonna miss that little guy. Me and my wife visited with him and his family several times in Vegas. The last time he and his wife, Kathy and Kemo and his wife invited us to go out and eat a delicious Prime Rib dinner. Buzz Evans came over to his house that night also for a visit. Gary had many friends.
RIP my friend.
