I use "Youtube MP3 Podcaster" for Firefox, which is an approved Add-on for Firefox browsers. It saves YouTube videos in a variety of formats, including MP3 and MP4.
To install it, open your Firefox browser, go to Tools > Add-ons > Get Add-ons. In the search box, on the upper right, type, or copy this and paste in: Youtube MP3 Podcaster and press Enter. Install it and set your Firefox Add-ons options to automatically check for updates.

I use MediaHuman. Works great and is super easy to use. Just run the media human software and paste the youtube url into the program and it will make an mp3 file for you.
