On October 13, 2013, Oracle updated its Java Virtual Machine to version 7 build 45, plugging 51 security vulnerabilities. My apologies for posting this 2 weeks later.
It is noteworthy that of the 51 vulnerabilities patched in this version, 50 are remotely exploitable without user interaction!
Brian Krebs has an excellent writeup about this latest build and the exploits it blocks. If you feel that you must keep Java enabled on any of your computers, please read the article, then head to http://www.java.com and download/install the new version. Java is available for various operating systems. All are vulnerable to targeted attacks.
I echo Brian's recommendation to uninstall all instances Java if you don't absolutely know you require it. If you must have Java for a desktop application, disable it in your web browsers.
