Chuck cut a song in 1957 on pedal steel called "Deep Feeling".

Yes, Chuck has always played steel guitar, usually non-pedal. He has several steel guitar solos on some of his early LPs. Back in the early 50s he was touring with Bill Haley & The Comets and the Comets' steel guitarist got sick. Chuck filled in with no problems. Bill Haley also saved him from a mob of rednecks who wanted to lynch him, but that's another story.
