Knoxville....1972

Post by Todd Higgins »

I reckon there's more than a fair chance that the young man playing steel on this, is a member here.

But if not, you may still get a kick out of it.

I checked with Tommy and
. . . it's not him . . .
Even though he said he did a
double-take when he seen it.

Stoney Stonecipher would probably know...that set
looks like the Jim Walter Homes TV show from Knoxville,"Bonnie Lou and Buster Show"?

Stoney also thought it was on the set of the
Bonnie Lou and Buster Show, but didn't know
who the steelplayer or others might be.

On another post sometime ago, Bobby Boggs from South Carolina, said he had played on the Bonnie Lou and Buster show when he was 13 years old. I know Bobby and his brother(guitar), played for me at my show,The Smoky Mountain Steel Guitar Jamboree a number of times before he developed some kind of nerve disorder that affected his hands. I understand he is all well again and has performed on the Saluda steel show lately. I hope that is true, because he could have(and still could maybe) been the new Big "E" in town. If Bobby reads this, I wish he would get in touch with me. Stoney
P.S. And Steve thanks for remembering your ole Buddy. I keep up with you and your musical career these days.

To continue for just a bit--if you go to the Archives Of Appalachia, and go to the Bonnie Lou and Buster link, they list all the guests etc, for the year 1972. Maybe that will answer some folks questions. I'm in the process of transfering the BBandB VHS tapes to DVD's, but so far I haven't run into that show that the young band was on. Hopefully I will sooner or later. Stoney-Lashley Le

Hi again Steve! I guess if you are as old as I am, you know everybody from Adam and Eve on down.HeHe. I don't have an email address or a phone number for Bobby, or I would get in touch with him.. I know he buys and sells guitars on the :instruments for sale: on the forum. My email is : stoney1@bellsouth.net. That is also where guys can reach me if they'd be interested in playing on the Thursday Talent Show at the Steel Convention next year. Some great pickers played for me on that show--Donna Hammitt,Sara Jory, Zane King, Joan Cox and even Johnny Cox played that show a few years back. Steve, besides record sessions, are you still working with Randy Travis?/? You did some great work on Josh Turners album!!!!Whewwwwww

Stoney,
Good research on finding a name for the Steel Player,
I wasn't aware of the Archives Of Appalachia site.
I'll let Tommy know, as he, too, was curious.
Thnx,
Russ

Bobby Boggs on steel, brothers Ronnie Boggs on Tele and Terry Boggs on drums. I just can't remember the other two other guys names right now, maybe Brian Fletcher is one of them.
Bobby's father David Boggs also plays steel. Their from Anderson, South Carolina.
Bobby is one of my favorite players, and he has helped me and many others over the years in our quest to learn the instrument.
