Classic Buddy Emmons With John Hartford.

Post by Archie Nicol R.I.P. »

I used to hate this tune as a lad due to all the `easy listening` versions doing the radio rounds. When I found this one by John in the late seventies, it fair cheered me up. Love the way Pig's piano solo blends into Buddy's steel solo.

Too many instruments in my opininion. I like his very first version better. Steel guitar or not.

nothing matters except that solo of buddy's on c6...
this is what legends are made of. licks that you have to play back ten times in a row so your smile doesn't rip your face apart.

I've searched U-tube, but the original version from '68 is not there. Anyway, it has him singing with only finger dobro, double bass and drums. I also like the records by Roger Miller, Kenny Rankin etc. from that time. They have a certain atmosphere, the 70's didn't have.

John must have known he was onto a winner when he wrote it. So many cover versions, so much money. ;-)
