MBAM crashed??

Post by Bent Romnes »

Wiz, I went to scan with MBAM yesterday and needed to do an update with downloading a new version. When done, I went to open and scan and was informed of an error...something about win32. I closed it. When I went to open it again, it cannot find the file any more and prompts me to do a manual search. What should I do? Uninstall MBAM and download a new one? Or will that not work since there seems to be remnants of old programs that interfere with the new program some times.

Here's what I would do. First, try running System Restore to a time before you updated MBAM and it crashed. If it still runs and scans, jump to the second paragraph down.

If System Restore doesn't fix MBAM, run the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware uninstaller from Control Panel, using an Administrator level account. Then reboot the computer. With MBAM uninstalled and the PC rebooted, navigate to your Program FIles directory and delete the Malwarebytes' folder.

Next, if you have CCleaner, run it to remove temporary files, then run a Registry scan and have it remove orphaned entries for MBAM and any other programs that are long gone. Be sure you save a backup before removing any Registry entries!

Go to www.malwarebytes.org and download and install the current version (now 1.70.0.1100), update it and see if it scans without crashing. Your valid registration should stay in effect. If not, contact the support email address you were provided with in your registration confirmation email (after you purchased the program).
