Do you know Maggie Björglund ?

Post by Bas Kapitein »

Today my evening paper spent two pages on the pedal steel. For a Dutch newspaper that is absolutely amazing. During the 40 years I read this paper it has probably spent no more than 10 words on the subject. The reason is a Danish steel player that is playing the “Crossing Border” festival in The Hague next weekend. Her name is Maggie Björglund. I searched her name on this forum and found only one hit.
On youtube I had more success:
Not for everyone, but I am sure there are more members who are pleasantly surprised.

This is only one example, there is a lot more!!

I admire players like her who draw attention to our instrument and explore different styles and maybe attract new blood.

I have met Maggie when I was playing in Austin a couple of years ago. Very nice person and she has been discussed here on the forum several times. She plays some very nice atmospheric parts. She was touring with Jack White not too far back. she has done some steel work with a Seattle artist, Rachel Flotard

That surpises me Dave. I ran her last name on both the internal search engine and the google one and got nowhere. Thanks for the extra info

check out www.maggiebjorklund.com and www.myspace.com/maggiebjorklund for more info. I noticed you spelled her last name with a g instead of a k. Try with a k might get more results on the web

I met her a few years back at SXSW for the No Depression showcase where I played. Dave - think you might have been on that gig too.

I let her use my Milkman amp and we chatted about pedal steel for a while - she is one of the good ones for sure. She flew that Bud in from some faraway place and it sounded great!

I believe she is playing with John Doe now as well.

Met her briefly when we shared a stage at Bumbershoot in Seattle a few years back. I think she was playing with Mark Pickerel. Very friendly, good player, great classic Bud tone.

Nice playing and legs to boot! :) ... On the tune "Insekt" (sp) she did some nice things in the "Hughey Zone" at around 3:45 or so....JH in Va.
Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!!
