New to me, Jimmy Day tune

Post by Bent Romnes »

I was quite taken by this one when I stumbled upon it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l350dIR4 ... ntext-vrec
From 1962 according to the youtube info.
Talk about pouring out your heart and soul!
Some nice tone this man had already in 1962.

That's from his steel and strings album. It might be available now on a cd. One of my heros. I think it was cut on an 8 string Sho-Bud. (His Blue Darlin')

It is funny how time slips away, but it sucks as our friends do. I really like this tune , and Jimmy D.'s playing is just the best here.

As a ballad player, Jimmy has never been surpassed. He wrings out emotion from every note that he plays, and his volume pedal technique is as good as it gets.

Isn't it strange that with fairly primitive equipment, Jimmy's tone is just so great. Have we moved on with guitars, volume pedals and amps? Possibly but his tone on that album is exemplary.

Bent, kan sende deg låtene fra plata på mail om du vil. Jimmy synes jeg er tidenes beste steelgitarist pga hans feeling som ingen andre har vært i nærheten av. Ikke like flashy som en del andre, men det er feelingen som teller.....

I just had to translate Tore's post.

Bent, can send you your tunes from the album in the mail if you want to. Jimmy I think is the greatest pedal steel guitarist, his feeling that no other has been in the vicinity of. Not as flashy as some others, but it is feeling that counts .....

(As close as I can get)

Bent - the translation wasn't for you. I wouldn't insult your intelligence or your ability to read Norwegian, but it was for the rest of us who don't speak it but may have been intrigued as to what the message was. Maybe I shouldn't have stuck my nose in, but one of my staff members is from Norway and I asked him what it said. :)

Bobby, that CD has two albums on there, the Steel and Strings and Golden Steel Guitar Hits, which is a great idea. Bear Family has some incredible packages.

I received the vinyl LP of Steel and Strings from bOb's forum store last week. This record knocks me out! I can't get over the whole concept or the tone in the man's hands, I just keeep playing it over and over. I had heard Jimmy Day's work on lots of material of course, but this puts a whole new perspective on the man. Thanks for turning the light on.

Jimmy Day

Post by Darrell Owens »

Love this tune. So amazing how Jimmy plays the somg so eloquently you don't really want to hear anything else. Someone made a remark to Chet one time about how to know what to play in a song. His response was, "the tune is always nice."
