Steve Swanlund - Marshall Tucker Band

Post by Niels Andrews »

For me one of the classic steel intro's was "Fire on the Mountain" and I believe it was played by Swanlund. Don't know much about him, but I think he deserves a mention here.

Niels, sorry to learn of Steve's passing. But Toy Caldwell played Fire On The Mountain.

Like I said I know little about him, he was listed on the Album I read. Anyways it was fun to listen to all the old Marshall Tucker music this morning.
Cheers

They were scheduled to come to Nova Scotia this summer and I was going to go. It happened about 3 days before the show. It was crazy. RIP.

Hey guys,

His name was Stuart and he was an awesome friend to me. We spent many hours riding the bus to gigs talking guitar. Until i started playin steel with MTB he kicked "Fire On The Mountain" off on guitar with slide. Toy Caldwell did the original cut.

Stuart was a deep musician and his theory was off the chain.

When we played the Ryman we stood out back having a few drinks and you guys need to know that the whole band was very nervous walking in that back door.
Doug Gray and Stuart told me "This is the holy ground of country music" and it was scary for them.

I told Stuart, hey i gotta play with the "World's #1 Steel Player" watchin me. My opinion!

I'll say that Jimmy Capps and Tommy White and really all of the Opry players treated us so nice.

Stuart was sick that night and we all were worried about him.
Anyways, he was with MTB ofr 27 years! Great guy and musician! Miss him alot!
thx......kenny
