Your right. He's playing a lot of licks that you usually don't hear. Very tasteful. I started listening to more of his Youtube videos because I was so impressed.

I've known or knew of Ted for many years. He and I both come from central Pa. Back in the mid 60's, Ted was "THE" pedal steel player in the area. I was in a York, Pa band in 65/66 (lead guitar) and our steel player, Harry "Hap" Hatterer, was taking lessons from Ted. Ted was a ZB dealer and our steel player bought a ZB through him.

Ted lived in the Ft Worth area for a long time and worked with bands in that area including one that was a regular at Billy Bob's and another that won the Texaco Country Showdown in Nashville one year.

He was not on the show schedule at the Texas (Dallas) Steel Show, that I know of, but should have been.

Being a former sound man that is the cardinal sin FEEDBACK.
But yes some great steel guitar in that number.

Charles...it was either with Scotts band or with the Pat Waters band..I've forgotten...Ted sent me a DVD of the show. The Pat Waters band also included a Piano player..Ted can you varify which band?? Ted was pleased I put this thread in for him...He's kinda an "Unsung hero"

Mickey, I agree with you. His steel playing is sweet. There seem to be allot of Unsung hero's arent there? My mentor and teacher Bob MacDonald is definately an unsung hero just like Ted. I am proud to say that Ted is playing the right steel to.

I had never heard of Ted before. He should be featured at the Dallas Show if he is living right here in Texas. Can someone tell us some history about Ted? Who has he played for, where he is living, is he regularly playing now, how many times has he been married, how much money does he have in the bank, what is his address and cell phone number, does he like shrimp. You know, stuff like that.

Quentin...I get what you mean when you said "The right steel too"

Mark...Ted used to live in Mineral Wells Texas...he also spent some time in Las Vegas. He used to Jam with Curly Chalker in his house...He sent me pics of it. Also pictures of him jamming with Jim Evans of Evans amplifiers...(Which he plays). He's a close friend of Bud Carter, and he was the one who told me that The Big "E" thinks highly of Bud. I'm not getting into his private life, but he's moved away from Texas. I get mail from him every day, and though we are an ocean apart it's nice for me to call him a good friend. If only I could understand the "Licks" he "tries" to explain to me via e'mails. I need him here one to one

I thank you all for the kind remarks. I just moved to Montana. Just went thru a nasty divorce. Being sort of crazy but I met a a Thai lady thru skype and I'm flying to Thailand to meet her family. The girls name is Jaeb and she's a knock out and is naive about her good looks. As for my geetar, I like helping anyone in showing them my crazy ideas I do tune Eb. It lets me hit open strings in major keys like G or C. Some say, it give a neat body tone.

Ted, I wish you happiness in your new relationship. I am a big fan of your playing. It's nice to get replies here on the Forum from great players. It's always a joy to hear from Paul Franklin and Tommy White and Buddy Emmons.

Ted, give us some more Youtube videos when you get settled in to your new life.

My purposeI, it should give you all some ideas. I do like sharing what little I know. I appreciated the help I got from good pickers. And as for Jaeb, shes a good Thai culture lady. Whew! What a great steel solo on "Can I Sleep In Your Arms Tonight Ladies!"
Anybody out there want to try to tab this one out?
I sat down and learned the bulk of it but there are a couple phrases that I can't get to. The first one is at the 0:49 minute mark. It is the lick over the V chord. I can get most of it using the B & C pedals and the E knee lever, but there are other notes moving that I can't seem to find. The video cuts to him just as he is finishing up this lick and it looks like he is doing it all on the 12th fret with no bar movement.
Can anybody help out on this one?

Dave, I went back to listen to it again, and I can't figure it out either. Man, I like the way he played his part and all of the other licks and fills. Very Tasteful.....

I wish he was back here in Texas. I'd take some lessons from that guy.

I think I am getting close on that lick. It uses the B & C pedals and the E knee lever to lower the 4th string a 1/2 tone, but then I think he throws the 2nd string in there with a whole step lower and release. I am pretty close to it, but it takes some fancy knee and foot work. All the note movement can be done on one fret with no bar movement. Great stuff!

Dave, I do the unison type licks with the B& C and I add the 2nd string 2 fret drop. To get that in and out effect. I do the long 1 7th lick by dropping the 2nd a full tone and using the B pedal start on a D position holding the 2nd and 5th active, then slide up to E then F and G and let go of pedals. I got some of that from Buddy. Like he did in Danny Boy. I did the 5 7th chord with the B & C and lowering the 2nd one fret. I use 2 4 & 6 strings, on the F# position,hold the 3 pedals in, slide back and let let go of 2nd string and C and put the C down in the E position. It sounds like a mistake but you end up holding the B & C on the E fret for the 5 7th chord. It's goofy but it works.
