Hugo Chambers

Post by Albert Talley »

Our dear friend, long time drummer to Hank Thompson and Ray Price, passed tonight at 8:45pm in Dallas, Texas.

Hugo was a best friend to me for many years and a big supporter of the Texas Steel Guitar Association.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, wife, Linda and family, brother, Billy and his family, daughter, Dena and all of the grandkids.

May you rest in peace my friend.

These last couple of years, I had the pleasure of getting to know Hugo and Linda and two nicer folks couldn't be found. I was blessed to play some jobs with the Brazos Valley Boys, here in the Fort Worth area. Hugo always had a smile and a handshake for me and anyone he would meet.

Linda, I send my blessings to you for your heart to start healing and also a long didtance hug in hopes that we can all rest assured that Hugo is druming for the Master now. He and Hank Thompson and Merle David and a whole bunch more (That we would tell stories about and of good times in the past)are in a great Swing Band beyond the clouds.
My best regards to you and the rest of the family.
Rest In Peace Hugo Chambers, your suffering here is done. We are sure going to miss you!

I came to know Hugo when Hank's band and Merl Lindsay's band, who I played Steel for, toured together in 1964. Band members from those bands, including Hugo who was playing drums for Hank at the time, shared many stories of days on the road. I met him only once more at one of the Texas shows a few years back.

Time passes too fast, and so many musicians from those days are now gone. May God bless Hugo's family and those who knew him and respected him while he was on this earth.
